A Gentleman in Moscow A Novel

In 1922, Count Alexander Rostov is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal and is sentenced to house arrest for the rest of his life in the Metropol, a grand hotel across the street from the Kremlin in Moscow. Stripped of his wealth and forced to move from his luxurious suite to a tiny attic room, the indomitable man of erudition and wit—who has never worked a day in his life—must now navigate the tumultuous decades of Russian history unfolding outside the hotel's doors.
