Donna Leon (born September 28, 1942) is an American-born novelist best known for her long-running Commissario Guido Brunetti crime series set in Venice. A former teacher and travel guide, she lived for many years in Venice before relocating to Switzerland. Her novels, written in English and widely translated, combine police procedural elements with social observation, food, music and moral reflection. Leon is also known for her environmental and cultural advocacy and for resisting translation of her Brunetti novels into Italian.
