FBI agent Rachel Walling finally gets the call she has dreaded for years: the serial killer known as The Poet has returned. Years earlier, she worked on the famous case tracking the killer, who wove lines of poetry into his hideous crimes, and apparently he has not forgotten her. Meanwhile, former LAPD detective and current private investigator Harry Bosch is adjusting to life in Las Vegas when he gets a call from the widow of an old friend who recently died. Although the death appeared natural, the friend's past ties to the hunt for the Poet make Harry dig deep. His investigation leads him straight into the path of the most ruthless and inventive murderer he has ever encountered.
