Emily Climbs

Emily Starr, an aspiring writer, is finally allowed to attend high school in Shrewsbury with her closest friends, Ilse, Teddy, and Perry. However, her tyrannical Aunt Elizabeth only grants permission on two strict conditions: Emily must board with her stern, disliked Aunt Ruth, and she must promise to stop writing fiction. Though this restriction initially feels impossible for Emily, the challenge ultimately proves an excellent exercise for her developing writing career, especially after her cousin, Jimmy, helps moderate the terms. Once in town, Emily's growing success—which includes having her poems published and writing for the town newspaper—sets the Shrewsbury gossips buzzing. As her friendships with Teddy and Perry deepen, bringing with them the first whispers of romance, Emily is confronted with a fabulous opportunity that compels her to make a potentially life-altering decision.
