A Week in December Vintage Christmas

Set in London in the last full week before Christmas, 2007, this satirical and sprawling novel tracks the lives of seven diverse characters over seven wintry days. The characters include a ruthless hedge fund manager attempting a massive financial deal, a Polish professional footballer adjusting to a new club, a young barrister with little work, a hack book-reviewer, a student drawn to Islamist theory, a schoolboy addicted to reality TV and drugs, and a Tube driver whose Circle Line train symbolically links their disparate lives. As their paths cross, the novel weaves together the complex patterns of modern urban existence and forces the group to confront the true nature of their world.
