V.C. Andrews (born Cleo Virginia Andrews) was an American novelist best known for her Gothic horror and family saga novels, most notably 'Flowers in the Attic' (1979). Before achieving literary fame in her late 50s, she worked as a commercial artist and portrait painter. She lived with a disability caused by a childhood fall and subsequent rheumatoid arthritis, which often confined her to a wheelchair. Following her death in 1986, her estate hired ghostwriter Andrew Neiderman to continue publishing novels under her name.
