James Herbert

James John Herbert, OBE (8 April 1943 – 20 March 2013) was an English author best known for his bestselling horror novels. Rising from a background in advertising and graphic design, Herbert published his debut novel The Rats in 1974 which sold out its first print run and established him as a major voice in popular horror fiction. Over his career he wrote more than twenty novels, many of which were adapted for film and television, and sold tens of millions of copies worldwide. He was awarded an OBE in 2010 for services to literature.
