Dame Susan Elizabeth Hill (born 5 February 1942) is an English author of fiction and non-fiction. She is best known for her gothic ghost story The Woman in Black and for a wide-ranging body of work including literary novels, short stories, crime fiction (the Simon Serrailler series) and non-fiction. Her awards include the Somerset Maugham Award and the Whitbread Prize; she was appointed CBE in 2012 and DBE in 2020 for services to literature.
