Reginald Charles Hill (3 April 1936 – 12 January 2012) was an English crime writer best known for the Dalziel and Pascoe series. Trained as an English teacher, he published his first novel in 1970 and went on to write more than 40 books, winning major genre awards including the CWA Gold Dagger and the Cartier Diamond Dagger for lifetime achievement. Several of his Dalziel and Pascoe novels were adapted for a long-running BBC television series.
