Frederick McCarthy Forsyth (25 August 1938 – 9 June 2025) was an English-born British novelist and former journalist, best known for meticulously researched, fast-paced geopolitical and espionage thrillers such as The Day of the Jackal, The Odessa File and The Dogs of War. A former RAF pilot and foreign correspondent for Reuters and the BBC, his reporting and intelligence work informed much of his fiction. He sold tens of millions of books worldwide and received honours including a CBE and other literary recognitions.
