John Barrowman is a Scottish-American actor, author, presenter, singer, and comic book writer, known for his roles as Captain Jack Harkness in Doctor Who and Torchwood, and Malcolm Merlyn in the Arrowverse. He was born in Glasgow, Scotland, and moved to Illinois, USA, with his family at the age of eight. He studied performing arts at the United States International University in San Diego. Barrowman has had a prolific career in musical theatre, television, film, and writing. He has published memoirs and co-authored several young adult fantasy novels with his sister, Carole E. Barrowman.
