Matt Groening is an American cartoonist, animator, writer, and producer, best known as the creator of the long-running animated television series The Simpsons, Futurama, and Disenchantment, as well as the comic strip Life in Hell. Born in Portland, Oregon, Groening's work often features satirical humor and commentary on American culture. He attended The Evergreen State College, where he focused on journalism and edited the campus newspaper. After moving to Los Angeles, he began drawing "Life in Hell," which gained a cult following and led to his career in animation. The Simpsons, which debuted in 1989, became a cultural phenomenon and the longest-running American primetime television series. Groening has received numerous awards for his work, including multiple Emmy Awards and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
