Tim Mason

Tim Mason was an American playwright and novelist, born on February 14, 1950, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from St. Olaf College, also studying at Harris Manchester College, Oxford. Mason began writing plays for the Children's Theatre Company of Minneapolis in college and later became a resident playwright there. His plays include "Levitation," "Babylon Gardens," and "Only You." He also wrote the book and lyrics for the musical "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" As an author, he wrote the young adult novel "The Last Synapsid" and the adult historical thriller "The Darwin Affair," which was his first adult novel. Mason received numerous awards, including a Kennedy Center Award, the Hollywood Drama-Logue Award, a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, and a Rockefeller Foundation grant. He passed away in 2023.
