Stephanie Burgis is an American fantasy writer for both children and adults. She grew up in East Lansing, Michigan, but now lives in Wales with her husband, fellow writer Patrick Samphire, their two young children, and their cat. She studied music history and French horn performance at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, and was a Fulbright scholar in Vienna. She also holds a master's degree in historical musicology from the University of Pittsburgh. Burgis began a PhD at the University of Leeds on opera and politics in 18th-century Vienna, which inspired her book "Masks and Shadows." She has published over forty short stories and numerous novels. Her work often features strong female characters, magic, and romance.
