Cathy Birkenstein

Cathy Birkenstein is a lecturer in English at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is the co-author, with Gerald Graff, of the best-selling textbook "They Say/I Say: The Moves That Matter in Academic Writing." Birkenstein has published essays on writing in various academic journals and is a founding adviser and consultant to Argument-Centered Education. She received her PhD in American literature and has worked on a study of Booker T. Washington.
