Alan Alda (born Alphonso Joseph D'Abruzzo) is an American actor, writer, director and science communicator best known for his role as Hawkeye Pierce on the television series M*A*S*H. In addition to his acting career, Alda has written books on communication and his experiences in show business, and founded the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science to help scientists explain their work to the public.
