Pierre Francis de Marigny Berton (1920–2004) was a Canadian historian, journalist, broadcaster and bestselling author known for popular narrative histories about Canada such as The National Dream, The Last Spike and Klondike. He worked as a newspaper editor and columnist, was a long-time television presence on programs like Front Page Challenge, and wrote more than forty books covering Canadian history and culture. He received multiple Governor General's Awards and was appointed a Companion of the Order of Canada.
