James K. Bartleman
James Karl Bartleman (24 December 1939 – 14 August 2023) was a Canadian diplomat, public servant and author. He served in the Canadian foreign service for more than 35 years, including roles as ambassador and as foreign policy advisor, and was the 27th Lieutenant Governor of Ontario (2002–2007). A member of the Chippewas of Mnjikaning First Nation, he championed literacy for Indigenous children and mental health awareness; he also published memoirs and several novels and non-fiction works.
