Joseph Boyden

Joseph Boyden (born 1966) is a Canadian novelist and short‑story writer best known for novels that explore Indigenous histories and perspectives in Canada, including Three Day Road (2005), Through Black Spruce (2008) and The Orenda (2013). He has won major Canadian literary awards and was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada in 2015. Boyden's public profile has also included controversy: since 2016 questions have been raised about the documentation and accuracy of his claims of Indigenous heritage, a matter that generated debate in Canadian media and among Indigenous writers and communities.
