Patrick deWitt (born 1975) is a Canadian novelist and screenwriter known for darkly comic, character-driven fiction. Born on Vancouver Island in Sidney, British Columbia, he moved frequently along the west coast of North America and later settled in Portland, Oregon. His novels include Ablutions (2009), The Sisters Brothers (2011) — which won the Governor General's Award and the Rogers Writers' Trust Prize and was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize — Undermajordomo Minor (2015), French Exit (2018) and The Librarianist (2023). He has also written screenplays and contributed to film adaptations of his work.
