Frances de Pontes Peebles
Frances de Pontes Peebles is a Brazilian-born novelist raised in Miami. She is the author of The Seamstress (published in Portuguese as Entre Irmãs) and The Air You Breathe. Her work has been translated into multiple languages and has received awards including the Elle Grand Prix for Fiction, the Friends of American Writers Award, and a James Michener-Copernicus Fellowship. A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and the Iowa Writers' Workshop, she has received fellowships and grants including Fulbright and Sacatar Foundation awards. The Seamstress was adapted for film and as a television miniseries in Brazil. She has served as a visiting professor at the Iowa Writers' Workshop and on the board of the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights.
