Ling Ma is a Chinese American novelist and professor. Born in Sanming, Fujian, China, she grew up in Utah, Nebraska, and Kansas. She received her AB from the University of Chicago and an MFA from Cornell University. Ma's debut novel Severance (2018) received widespread acclaim and multiple awards; her later work includes Bliss Montage (2022). She has worked as a fact checker and editor and has published essays and short fiction in outlets such as Granta, The New Yorker, VICE, and Playboy. She teaches and lives in Chicago.
