Elaine Everest was an English author of historical sagas set chiefly in North West Kent. A former journalist and prolific short-story writer for women's magazines and national newspapers, she also wrote non-fiction books for dog owners and ran a creative writing school (The Write Place) in Kent. Her best-known work includes the Woolworths Girls series and The Teashop Girls. She won several writing competitions and awards and was active as a tutor and broadcaster.
