John Bunyan
John Bunyan was an English writer and nonconformist preacher, best remembered as the author of the Christian allegory 'The Pilgrim's Progress'. Born in Elstow, Bedfordshire, he worked as a tinker and served in the Parliamentary Army during the English Civil War. Following a profound religious conversion, he became a popular preacher. Due to his refusal to cease preaching without a license, he spent over twelve years in Bedford Gaol, where he wrote several of his most significant works, including his spiritual autobiography 'Grace Abounding to the Chief of Sinners' and the first part of 'The Pilgrim's Progress'.
