Xavier de Maistre

Xavier de Maistre (1763–1852) was a French-speaking Savoyard military officer and author. He is best known for his classic work 'Voyage Around My Room' (Voyage autour de ma chambre), a discursive and mischievous memoir written while he was under house arrest for dueling in 1790. He later served in the Russian army and lived in St. Petersburg.
