Pierre Choderlos de Laclos (1741–1803) was a French army officer, novelist and epistolary writer best known for his novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses (1782), a landmark work of literary fiction noted for its psychological complexity and satirical portrait of aristocratic decadence. He served as an artillery officer and later held diplomatic and administrative posts during and after the French Revolution.
