George Shannon is an American children's book author, storyteller, and former children's librarian. He was born on February 14, 1952, in Caldwell, Kansas. Shannon has written over forty books, primarily picture books, which often explore themes of folklore, storytelling, and the natural world. His work has received numerous awards and accolades, including the Charlotte Zolotow Award Honor Book and the Washington State Book Award. He has also been recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Pacific Northwest Writers Association and was named an Island Treasure by the Bainbridge Arts and Humanities Council. Shannon lives on Bainbridge Island, Washington.
