Dow Mossman
Dow Mossman is an American writer known for his 1972 novel, 'The Stones of Summer.' The novel, which took ten years to write, received critical comparisons to authors like James Joyce, William Faulkner, and J.D. Salinger. After its initial publication, the book went out of print, and Mossman largely disappeared from the literary scene. He worked for many years as a welder and later as a paper bundler. In 2002, a documentary film titled 'Stone Reader' brought renewed attention to Mossman and his novel, leading to its republication. Mossman studied at Coe College and earned an MFA from the Iowa Writers' Workshop in 1969. He was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where he continues to live.
