Sonya Renee Taylor
Sonya Renee Taylor is a New York Times best-selling author, world-renowned activist, and thought leader on racial justice, body liberation, and transformational change. She is also an internationally award-winning artist and the founder of The Body Is Not an Apology (TBINAA), a global digital media and education company that explores the intersections of identity, healing, and social justice through the framework of radical self-love. Taylor's work argues that all people are born with self-love, which is then eroded by societal messages of shame and injustice. She suggests that healing comes from reconnecting with our inherent worthiness. Taylor is the author of seven books, including "The Body Is Not an Apology: The Power of Radical Self-Love" (both 1st and 2nd editions), "Your Body Is Not an Apology Workbook," "Celebrate Your Body (and Its Changes, Too!)," the poetry collection "A Little Truth on Your Shirt," "The Book of Radical Answers," and "The Journal of Radical Permission." She also co-edited "The Routledge International Handbook of Fat Studies." Taylor has received numerous awards and honors, including the National Individual Poetry Slam Championship in 2004 and an invitation to the White House Forum on LGBT and Disability Issues in 2016. She was also an inaugural Edmund Hillary Fellow in New Zealand from 2017-2020. Taylor is a Black queer woman who identifies as fat, cisgender, and neurodivergent.
