Timothy Zahn is an American writer of science fiction and fantasy, born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1951. He is best known for his Star Wars novels, particularly the Thrawn trilogy, which are credited with reviving interest in the franchise. Zahn has also created several original sci-fi and fantasy series. He holds a B.S. in physics from Michigan State University and an M.S. in physics from the University of Illinois. He began writing science fiction as a hobby in 1975 and became a full-time writer in 1980. Zahn's work often features realistic human characters and well-researched scientific backgrounds. He has won a Hugo Award for his novella 'Cascade Point' and multiple Dragon Awards.
