Alexei Navalny
Alexei Anatolyevich Navalny was a Russian opposition leader, anti-corruption activist, and political prisoner. He founded the Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK) in 2011. He was recognized by Amnesty International as a prisoner of conscience and was awarded the Sakharov Prize for his work on human rights. Navalny was born on June 4, 1976, in Butyn, Russia, and died on February 16, 2024, in a penal colony. He was known for his investigations into corruption among Russian officials and his vocal opposition to President Vladimir Putin. Navalny was poisoned with a Novichok nerve agent in 2020 and was subsequently imprisoned, dying in custody in 2024.
