David D. Burns is an American psychiatrist and adjunct professor emeritus in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine. He is the author of several bestselling books, including "Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy," "The Feeling Good Handbook," and "Feeling Great: The Revolutionary New Treatment for Depression and Anxiety." Burns popularized cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) through his writings, which became bestsellers in the 1980s. He is also the creator of TEAM CBT, an evolution of traditional cognitive therapy. Burns has received numerous awards for his research and teaching, including being named "Teacher of the Year" three times by the graduating class of psychiatric residents at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He has also received the Distinguished Contribution to Psychology Through the Media Award from the Association of Applied and Preventive Psychology and the A. E. Bennett Award for his research on brain chemistry..
