Edward Rutherfurd, born Francis Edward Wintle in 1948, is an English novelist known for his epic historical novels that span long periods of history and are set in specific locations. His debut novel, Sarum, established his signature style with a ten-thousand-year storyline. Rutherfurd attended the University of Cambridge and Stanford Business School. After working in political research, bookselling, and publishing, he returned to his childhood home to write Sarum, which became an international bestseller. His books have sold over fifteen million copies worldwide and have been translated into numerous languages. He currently divides his time between New England and Europe.
