Edward Rutherfurd
Edward Rutherfurd is the pen name of Francis Edward Wintle (born 1948). An English novelist best known for long-form epic historical fiction set in particular places, his debut Sarum (1987) established his pattern of multi-generational, place-centred novels. He was educated at the University of Cambridge and Stanford Business School, worked in political research, bookselling and publishing, and since the 1990s has divided his time between Europe and North America. His notable novels include Sarum, Russka, London, The Forest, New York, Paris and China. He has received awards including the Langum Prize for American Historical Fiction and the City of Zaragoza's International Historical Novel Honor Award.
