E L James (born Erika Leonard) is a British author best known for the Fifty Shades trilogy, a series of erotic romance novels that achieved international bestseller status and were adapted into feature films. Prior to publishing the trilogy, she worked in television production and later gained global recognition for her commercial fiction that brought the erotica-romance subgenre into mainstream attention.
