Rick Yancey is an American author known for his young adult novels in the suspense, fantasy, horror, and science fiction genres. Born on November 4, 1962, in Miami, Florida, he was adopted and grew up in Lakeland, Florida. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in English from Roosevelt University, Yancey worked various jobs, including a stint as a tax collector for the IRS for twelve years. He began writing full-time in 2004. His notable works include the Alfred Kropp series, The Monstrumologist series, and The 5th Wave series, the latter of which was adapted into a feature film. Yancey's books have been translated into over twenty languages and have received numerous awards and accolades. He currently resides in Gainesville, Florida, with his wife.
