James Smith Dashner (born November 26, 1972) is an American author best known for young-adult speculative fiction, most notably The Maze Runner series. He has written multiple series for teens and young readers, including The 13th Reality and The Mortality Doctrine. Dashner's work often blends science fiction, dystopian settings, and action-oriented survival plots. He has been a New York Times bestselling author and saw film adaptations of The Maze Runner released in 2014–2018. He has lived and worked in Utah and the Rocky Mountain region.
