Katherine Alice Applegate (born October 9, 1956) is an American author best known for children’s and young-adult fiction, including the Animorphs series, the Everworld and Remnants series, and award-winning middle-grade novels such as The One and Only Ivan. She won the 2013 Newbery Medal for The One and Only Ivan and has written across genres including science fiction, fantasy, and realistic middle-grade fiction. She lives in California and continues to publish books for young readers.
