
Mary Karr

Mary Karr (born January 16, 1955) is an American poet, essayist, and memoirist from East Texas. She gained wide recognition with her bestselling 1995 memoir The Liars' Club and is the author of additional memoirs Cherry and Lit, several poetry collections, and the craft book The Art of Memoir. Karr has received numerous fellowships and prizes for her poetry and prose, and she has taught in university creative writing programs.
