Carl Hiaasen

Carl Hiaasen (born March 12, 1953) is an American novelist and journalist best known for his sharply satirical crime novels and his longtime opinion column for The Miami Herald (1985–2021). A lifelong Florida resident and outspoken environmental advocate, Hiaasen's fiction often skewers political corruption, real-estate developers, and the eccentricities of modern Florida. He has written novels for both adults and younger readers (including the Newbery Honor book Hoot) and several nonfiction collections of his columns.
