Michael McGarrity

Michael McGarrity is an American novelist and former law-enforcement officer from New Mexico. He is best known for the Kevin Kerney crime series set in New Mexico and the historical American West trilogy (Hard Country; Backlands; The Last Ranch). Before becoming a full-time writer (his first novel Tularosa was published in 1996) he served as a Santa Fe County deputy sheriff (where he founded the sex-crimes unit), worked as an investigator and caseworker for the New Mexico Public Defender's Office, and held roles in corrections and social work. He has received multiple state literary and civic awards and lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
