Norman Bridwell

Norman Ray Bridwell (February 15, 1928 – December 12, 2014) was an American author and illustrator best known for creating the Clifford the Big Red Dog series. Bridwell wrote and illustrated dozens of Clifford picture books after the first was published in 1963; the franchise grew to include television adaptations, merchandise, and a feature film. He studied art at the John Herron School of Art and Cooper Union and lived for many years on Martha's Vineyard.
