Janice Marian Berenstain (née Grant) was an American author and illustrator best known as co-creator, with her husband Stan Berenstain, of the Berenstain Bears children's book series. Born in Philadelphia in 1923, she trained at the Philadelphia art school and, with Stan, produced cartoons and then hundreds of children’s books beginning in the 1950s and continuing through the late 20th century. Their work spawned television adaptations and a long-running franchise of books aimed at young readers.
