Jan Brett

Jan Brett (born December 1, 1949) is an American author and illustrator best known for richly detailed children's picture books such as The Mitten, The Hat, and Gingerbread Baby. Trained at Colby-Sawyer College and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Brett is noted for intricate gouache illustrations, decorative borders, and culturally researched settings that accompany many of her retellings and original stories. She lives in Massachusetts and has travelled widely for research and book appearances.
