J. Meade Falkner

John Meade Falkner (8 May 1858 – 22 July 1932) was an English novelist, poet and antiquarian best known for the adventure classic Moonfleet (1898). He also wrote the ghost story The Lost Stradivarius (1895) and The Nebuly Coat (1903), together with topographical and historical works on Oxfordshire, Bath and Berkshire. In business life he was a senior executive (later chairman) at Armstrong Whitworth and after retirement served as honorary librarian to Durham Cathedral and honorary reader in palaeography at the University of Durham.
