John W. James

John W. James (February 16, 1944 – August 10, 2021) was the founder of The Grief Recovery Institute and co-author of The Grief Recovery Handbook and When Children Grieve. He developed the Grief Recovery Method, an action-based program and certification system used by professionals and laypeople to help individuals process and move beyond losses of many kinds. He led seminars and trainings internationally and devoted his career to grief education and support.
