Lauren Tarshis (born November 23, 1963) is an American author best known for the New York Times bestselling I Survived historical fiction series for children. She has written numerous middle-grade novels and nonfiction tie-ins that dramatize real historical disasters from a child's perspective. Tarshis is also the author of Emma-Jean Lazarus Fell Out of a Tree (a Golden Kite honor book and an Oprah's Book Club pick). She has worked as an editor for Scholastic magazines and lives in the Connecticut town where she grew up.
