Russell Banks
Russell Earl Banks (1940–2023) was a celebrated American novelist, poet, and short story writer known for his poignant, realistic portrayals of the working-class experience, domestic strife, and social dilemmas in America. Raised in New England, his work often explored themes of class, race, and moral struggle. He was a professor emeritus at Princeton University and served as the New York State Author from 2004 to 2008. Several of his acclaimed novels, including 'The Sweet Hereafter' and 'Affliction', were adapted into major feature films.
