Rachel Hartman (born July 9, 1972) is an American author and comic artist best known for her young-adult fantasy novels set in the kingdom of Goredd, beginning with Seraphina (2012). Her work blends rich worldbuilding, music and dragon lore with themes of identity and belonging. Hartman began publishing comics (Amy Unbounded) before moving into novels; her books have been New York Times bestsellers and have received awards including the William C. Morris Award and the Sunburst Prize. She lives in Vancouver, British Columbia.
