Natalie Savage Carlson (1906–1997) was a prolific and celebrated American author of children's literature. Born in Kernstown, Virginia, she drew inspiration from her French-Canadian heritage and her extensive travels as the wife of a naval officer, notably living in Paris, which served as the setting for several of her most beloved works. She began her writing career early, publishing her first story at age eight in the Baltimore Sunday Sun. Her books are recognized for their warmth, humor, and focus on diverse family structures.
