Matthew Kneale

Matthew Kneale is a British author born in London in 1960. The son of screenwriters Nigel Kneale and Judith Kerr, he studied Modern History at Magdalen College, Oxford. After teaching English in Tokyo, he began his writing career. He is best known for his historical novel 'English Passengers', which won the Whitbread Book of the Year Award and was shortlisted for the Booker Prize. He has lived in Rome for many years and has written extensively on history and contemporary life.
